A Feverish Haze: Fever by Lauren DeStefano

I read this book in its entirety in an airport while waiting for a delayed flight, and afterwards, I was dazed. Fever was this frenzied flurry of a crazy dream until the last word, and then it was over and I had to figure out how to return to reality after those few hours of being so immersed in Rhine’s life. It was hypnotizing and not easily forgotten.

My review of the first book in the Chemical Garden series: https://trudreamr.wordpress.com/2012/08/23/a-blossoming-tale-wither-by-lauren-destefano/

An Unexpected Blessing: The Unintended by Robin Woods

A fantastic work of suspense and mystique, this young adult novel left me craving more. Robin Woods has created a brilliant world where everything and nothing can make sense simultaneously. Her vampires do not sparkle, but their roles are far more intriguing. Woods’ unique take on these over-used villains is refreshing. I was especially impressed with their background. The romance also refrains from being overbearing. Although thoroughly enjoyable, the romantic relationship does not become the focus of the novel like in most YA fiction (which is good, because I am rooting for the second love interest!). A must read for any teenage girls who had lost faith in vampire fiction.

And thus my heart shattered: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

A fast-paced young adult fantasy novel, Shatter Me combines flavors of X-Men and Hunger Games to create a delightful read. Easy to devour in a single night, the metaphors are captivating and the innovative use of strikethrough text gave it a different spin. A villain you love to hate, a teenage girl who kills those she touches, and a dystopian revolution–plenty to entertain!

A Blossoming Tale: Wither by Lauren DeStefano

As the third dystopian, futuristic, young adult book I read in a row, Wither really stood out to me as unique. DeStefano is an incredible writer whose diction and imagination created this beautiful prison that I could not escape from. If you do end up reading this, look for the 6 word sentence that broke my heart. Rhine, as a character, is very well-rounded, an unusual and refreshing find in teen books. In Wither, almost none of the predictions I made came close. I adored this book.
